As you practice Pilates you will undoubtedly be encouraged to lengthen your body and pull in toward the mid-line or “zip it up”. Zip it up is a cue that is supposed to bring to mind the idea of how you have to lengthen and pull yourself together to put on a pair of tight jeans for example. Hugging in toward the mid-line is very useful....
Image via Wikipedia Most people don’t associate Pilates with strength training, other than “core”, so they are often surprised when attending my Pilates classes at Parrot Cay as I teach a lot of classical Pilates strength exercises that many teachers leave out of group classes in favor of more stretching. In the basic pilates...
Never mind exercise names like spine twist and neck pull, or equipment that look like medieval torture devices sporting ominous names like, the reformer; for some people, even thinking about starting a Pilates exercise program is scary. Since it’s Halloween weekend, I got to thinking about how Pilates might be scary for beginners. Then I started...

Image via Wikipedia A question I recently received: Hi Lynda. I am a 36-year old man with mitral valve prolapse. I take a low-dose blood pressure medication daily, and my blood pressure ranges from 113/68 to 136/80 depending on the time of day and my mood, what I’m doing, etc. I was told that because of my heart valve, I shouldn’t...
First a great one from Kathi Casey, whose Get Off the Couch, Potato I reviewed last month. In all three audios, Lippin’s calm and reassuring voice explains in detail Pilates breathing patterns and how to keep a neutral spine. Many other programs leave these instructions out, endangering a customer’s back and neck. I was very impressed...
This is from Scott Taylor, Karate and Kickboxing Instructor as well as editor of the Uechi-ryu Journal . I recommend this audio program to anyone looking to rid themselves from back pain and who does not wish to leave the comfort of their own home to do so. Lynda’s voice is soothing and her instructions are crystal clear and so easy to follow!...

The Future of Robotics: Why haven't we built C-3PO yet?
[General Sciences]
In a way, we do live in a robot-filled future. Robots are teaching classes in Japan, and you could wake up as a cyborg yourself in as little as three years.
