I never really would have thought you could make your own candy corn at home until one of my family members sent me a link with instructions. She knows how much I love candy corn so being able to make my own at home might be trouble! Your candy corns won’t look the same as the ones you buy at the store, and they do taste a little different (the store bought are usually flavored with honey) but that’s ok — …  Read More →

I don’t know why, but we always have donuts with our chili for Halloween dinner. I can’t figure out how a sweet pastry was paired up with a bowl of hot chili, especially since the kids leave for trick or treating not long after anyway! Though ours were always store-bought when I was growing up, I think this year I’m going to make my own. That way I can also have some fun with the…  Read More →

The bubble-like section could hold finger snacks like nuts, wrapped candies and such. The size opf Babyboop bowl is approximately 12w x 8d x 1.5″h....

Last Friday, which is usually our take-out pizza day, the Husband came home with a box of pizza, wings, garlic bread and a plate of antipasto. That last one was a surprise. It has been a while since I’ve actually started a meal of pizza and wings with antipasto. Antipasto is a serving of different kinds of cured meats, olives, peppers, marinated vegetables, and cheeses. Sometimes there are also anchovies, and toasted bread. The are other...

One of my favorite ways to take care of breakfast for my family is to have it either prepped and ready to go by morning, or to have it completely done by morning. I especially like things like cinnamon rolls that can hang out in the fridge overnight before being put in the oven first thing in the morning, and I love doing oatmeal in my slow cooker during the night as well. The most important thing to keep in mind when …  Read More →

There are many benefits to eating foods while they are in season. Shopping local fruit and vegetable stands, Farmer’s Markets, or even buying produce that is in season at your local market saves you money. Fruits and vegetables have the best flavor when you eat them at their peak. The Sustainable Table website offers  up information on what foods are in season in your area, where Farmer’s Markets are located, Food Co-ops, shopping...

Yesterday afternoon I realized that I had some apples sitting on the counter that should be used pretty soon. I had bought a bunch last week and the kids had snacked on them over the last few days, but the last four sitting there were begging to be baked into something. I didn’t have enough for my usual apple pie and I wanted to shake things up a bit anyway. I did a search for apple recipes and came across this one for a Sour Cream Apple...

I like fettuccine, but the usual fettuccine recipe is not all that healthy for you. Today I have a healthier fettuccine recipe to share with you courtesy of Tobasco . This fettuccine recipe is loaded with fresh herbs and vegetables, including the fall flavor of butternut squash. If you’re lucky enough, you might still have some of these ingredients growing in your garden. I love food with lots of …  Read More →

I try to savor this time of year — it seems like it goes by so fast and before we know it it’s already winter and fall was just a blip on the radar. Fall in my particular region is especially short-lived, going from intensely hot summer to really chilly within the span of weeks. To help stretch things out a bit and…  Read More →

One of the other blogs that I write is a natural beauty blog . While looking for something beauty-related to write about for today, I found this Spice Block by Domestic Aesthetic . It’s made from recycled wood and it’s a very unique accessory for the kitchen. I keep my Kosher Salt in a little glass bowl close to my stove. Twice I’ve knocked the little glass bowl to the floor. What a mess - glass everywhere. That would never...

During the cooler months I like to spend a bit more time on my kids’ breakfast. That’s not to say they don’t still get the “quicker” breakfasts like cereal or a bagel — especially on a school day — but on the mornings that I know I’ll have a few extra minutes I’ll fire up the oven and pull out a casserole dish. Thankfully, my kids all like oatmeal, and though they’ll eat it with a little...
